Physical Therapy

Your physical therapist will perform a specific evaluation to examine your individual needs in order to optimize your physical abilities, reduce the effects of disease or injury, and prevent further disability. You and your therapist will develop a customized treatment plan to address your specific goals. Your physical therapist will teach you how to prevent or manage your condition, reduce pain, and restore your mobility so you can maximize your level of independence and achieve your long-term health benefits. In creating your unique treatment plan, your physical therapist may work with you on any of the following:

  • therapeutic exercises to improve your endurance and overall muscle strength
  • hands-on techniques to re-educate muscles, restore alignment, and enhance movement
  • therapeutic activities to improve balance and coordination for safe movement
  • application of specialized equipment and hands-on techniques to address your specific mobility needs
  • modification and training in adaptive equipment, such as a walker, cane, or wheelchair for fall prevention and mobility
  • customization of supportive devices for optimal positioning, protection of healing structures, and prevention of further loss of joint motion
  • specialized techniques to reduce pain which may lead to a possible reduction in long-term use of prescription medications and their side effects
  • extensive education and training for you and your family/caregiver to meet your specific needs and healthcare goals
  • promotion of overall health and wellness programs for a positive impact on health-related quality of life
