Physical Therapy

At Northwestern Medicine Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital, you may receive care from physical therapists. The physical therapist is a member of your care team. They will evaluate you to find out your needs and work with you to create a treatment plan.

Your physical therapist will help you manage your condition. They will also help lessen your pain and restore your mobility so you can be more independent. Your physical therapist may work with you on:

  • Exercises to improve your endurance and muscle strength
  • Techniques to re-educate your muscles and improve movement
  • Activities to improve your balance and coordination so you can move safely
  • Education for you and your family or caregiver to help you meet your needs and goals
  • Promotion of health and wellness programs for a positive impact on health-related quality of life
  • Improvements to your mobility with advanced technology
  • Assessments for specialized equipment, bracing or orthotics to improve your safety, balance and mobility
  • Training with equipment, such as a walker, cane or wheelchair, so you can safely be more mobile
  • Wheelchair fitting and training
  • Assessing and treating balance disorders
  • Interventions to help manage pain
