Occupational Therapy

Your occupational therapist helps you engage in daily life through the therapeutic use of everyday activities. Together, you will work to reduce the effects of your injury or condition, prevent further disability and return to daily living activities, such as eating, bathing, dressing, homemaking and getting into a car.

To help you achieve your maximum level of independence, your occupational therapist may work with you on any of the following:

  • training to improve the ability to complete daily tasks.
  • recommending equipment and/or modifications for the home that can help completion and safety of tasks, such as dressing, bathing and preparing meals.
  • assessing need for specialized equipment, bracing or splinting to improve hand function, available through our Prosthetics and Orthotics Center.
  • building physical endurance and strength.
  • compensating for vision and memory loss.
  • providing activities to rebuild self-confidence and self-esteem.
  • education for patient, family members and caregivers to prepare for your return home.
