Research and Education

The research mission at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital, part of Northwestern Medicine, is to achieve innovative solutions through collaborative partnerships with physicians, clinicians, nurses, administrators, university faculty members and industry sponsors with applied research in the area of physical medicine and rehabilitation. Through our research, we strive to advance the quality of rehabilitative care, improve overall patient satisfaction and demonstrate optimal treatment outcomes for the patients we serve.

Marianjoy's clinical education team supports the process and culture of education and training in order to facilitate and inspire innovation and growth of others. Education and training directly supports clinical excellence and positive health outcomes that impact our patients and the communities we serve. Promoting the most effective practices is a key focus of the education strategies used, which include associate development; nursing councils; the Nursing Clinical Ladder Program and the Master Clinician Program for other healthcare support members; and the residency program.

The education team, in collaboration with leadership, may also serve as a consultant or facilitator for various initiatives throughout the organization. This may be accomplished through various strategies:

  • assessment of educational needs and development and deployment of education and training.
  • supporting technology training, implementation and integration into patient treatment.
  • facilitating and supporting associate professional growth and development via the Nursing Clinical Ladder and Master Clinician programs, Pathway to Presenting, and serving and student clinical instructors.
  • facilitating and serving as consultants for research through translation of the evidence into clinical practice.
  • through use of standardized methodology, identifying and supporting opportunities to affect change within disciplines, teams, etc.
