Subacute Rehabilitation

Subacute rehabilitation is designed for patients who are unable to withstand the intensity of acute rehabilitation therapy. It is also ideal for those patients who have completed inpatient rehabilitation but still require additional therapy before they achieve the level of independence required to go home. Marianjoy subacute patients receive personalized care from expert clinicians, utilizing our state-of-the-art therapy devices.

Subacute rehabilitation is available in our main hospital in Wheaton, as well as through several partner facilities across the suburban Chicago area. Patients who may benefit from this level of care should meet the following admission criteria:

  • Medically stable
  • Completed a minimum three-day stay in an acute-care hospital
  • Have a physical, occupational and/or speech therapy need
  • Require a level of medical care managed by a physician as needed
  • Have need for nursing or self-care assistance (24-hour supervision)

For more information on how to access subacute services at Marianjoy or one of our partner facilities, please contact the Admissions Department at 630.909.8920.

If you do not meet the criteria for acute inpatient rehabilitation, you still may benefit from a stay in Day Rehabilitation and Outpatient Therapy.

Patients at Marianjoy are admitted on a referral basis. For more information, call 630.909.8920.
