Children Reaching their Highest Potential

The Marianjoy Pediatric Rehabilitation Program

At Marianjoy, we recognize the unique needs of pediatric patients and their families. The Marianjoy Pediatric Rehabilitation Program provides inpatient and outpatient rehabilitative care to children from birth to 18 years of age who have physical, cognitive and/or learning challenges due to illness, injury or congenital causes.

Marianjoy pediatric therapists are highly skilled in a variety of specialty areas and at all levels of care─inpatient, outpatient and day rehabilitation. Marianjoy pediatric therapists closely guide your child to where they need to be at their stage of life – learning, playing and living life to the fullest.

The Marianjoy Pediatric Program uses physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology and neuropsychology to treat pediatric patients with an array of conditions, including:

• Cerebral palsy
• Orthopaedic conditions
• Neuromuscular diseases
• Brain injury
• Spinal cord injury
• Congenital abnormalities
• Arthritis
• Autism spectrum disorders
• Sensory integrative dysfunction
• Pulmonary disease
• Complications from cancer

Family focused
A child, however strong and independent, is, first and foremost, a valued member of a special family unit. At Marianjoy, parents, siblings and loved ones play a crucial role in a child's rehabilitation program. Family education is an important part of helping children reach their goals.

You want the best

The Marianjoy Medical Group physicians and clinicians seek out the latest in medical technology and treatment methods to provide excellence in care to children, including:

  • interdisciplinary care.
  • sensory integration therapy, a technique used to treat neurological  disorders such as attention deficit disorder and autism. Used in conjunction with other techniques, it helps children in processing sensory input and learning.
  • botox and phenol injections, which help reduce focal spasticity.
  • serial casting, a non-invasive technique to stretch and elongate muscle tissue, in order to improve the child's function.
  • aquatic therapy to help improve muscle flexibility, strengthening and retraining
  • Videofluoroscopic evaluation of swallowing by trained pediatric speech-language pathologists.
  • constraint-induced therapy to encourage use of non-dominant/injured or impaired extremity.
  • partial body weight supported treadmill training.
  • tuned orthotic management, which is the process of selecting and adjusting the design features of the orthotic and footwear to achieve optimal performance in gait.
  • driver evaluation and training for new drivers to assess potential for independent driving and to make recommendations for modifications and training.
